How to connect Porter Metrics to Claude (MCP)

Step-by-step guide to connect Porter Metrics to Claude Desktop, Claude on the web and Claude Code, and ask questions about your marketing data.

Once Porter Metrics is connected to Claude, you can ask about your Google Ads, Meta Ads, GA4, Shopify, HubSpot and more in plain English. The setup takes about 5 minutes.

Before you start

  • A Porter Metrics account with your marketing accounts connected. If you already use Porter with Looker Studio, Google Sheets or BigQuery, those accounts are already available in Claude — no duplicate setup. New to Porter? Start from https://app.portermetrics.com/.

  • Claude Desktop or claude.ai (web), signed in.

Connection details

  • Name: Porter Metrics

  • MCP server URL: https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp

  • Domain allowlist: *.portermetrics.com

Connect in Claude Desktop or Claude on the web

  1. In Claude, open Customize from the left sidebar and select the Connectors tab.

  2. Click Add custom connector.

  3. Enter Porter Metrics as the name and paste https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp in the MCP server URL field. Click Continue.

  4. Review the authentication and permission details Claude detects, then click Add.

  5. Click Connect to authorize Porter Metrics.

  6. Review the access request and click Allow Access. If you are asked to sign in, use the Porter account that has access to your marketing data (you can sign in with Google).

  7. Porter Metrics now shows as connected. Next, set up the domain allowlist (steps 8 and 9).

  8. Open your user menu, select Settings and then Capabilities. Review Code execution and file creation, Allow network egress and the Domain allowlist.

  9. In the additional domains field, enter *.portermetrics.com exactly as written: asterisk, dot, no spaces and no https:// prefix. A dot on its own (.portermetrics.com) is rejected. Click Add and confirm that *.portermetrics.com appears in the allowed domains.

  10. Open a new chat — you need one after changing network settings — and test the connection (see "Check that it works" below).

These settings control internet access for Claude's code execution. They are separate from the connection itself, which is already done in step 7. The available controls can vary by plan and organization policy.

Optional, recommended: in the new chat, paste this link so Claude learns how to use Porter (connecting accounts, pulling data, handling errors), then ask "what can Porter do?":

https://mcp.portermetrics.com/install

Note: the Porter plugin or skill is not the same as the connector. Your data only flows through the connector, so make sure Porter Metrics appears as connected under Connectors.

Connect in Claude Code (terminal)

  1. Run this command in your terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http portermetrics https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp
  2. The next time you start a Claude Code session, Claude opens your browser so you can sign in to Porter. Pick the Google account linked to your Porter workspace. You only need to do this once.

  3. Inside Claude Code, run /mcp list. You should see portermetrics with status connected.

Check that it works

Ask Claude: "Using Porter, list the data source accounts I have connected." You should get a list of your accounts grouped by platform. If you see it, the connection is live.

Example prompts

  • "Pull yesterday's Meta Ads results grouped by campaign and ad set. Flag anything with CPA above $40."

  • "Compare Google Ads cost vs. GA4 revenue for the last 30 days."

  • "What were my top 10 organic landing pages in Search Console in the last 28 days? Include clicks, impressions, and average position."

  • "Draft a short weekly report for my client using Google Ads spend, GA4 sessions, and Shopify revenue."

Pricing

The MCP is included in your Porter plan at no extra cost. Porter charges per connected account, and the same account you use in Looker Studio, Sheets or BigQuery is the one you use in Claude — you don't pay twice. See https://portermetrics.com/en/pricing/.

Troubleshooting

  • The sign-in window doesn't open. Disable pop-up blockers for claude.ai and try again. On Claude Desktop, check that your default browser is set correctly.

  • "No accounts found." Make sure you signed in with the same Google account that has the data source connected in Porter, and that the account is active in your Porter workspace.

  • Claude says it can't access Porter. The connector may have been disabled. Go to Settings → Connectors, find Porter and turn it on. You may need to sign in again.

  • Empty results. Check the date range — some platforms have a 48-hour data delay — and that the account has data for the metrics you asked about.

  • "Invalid field" errors. Ask Claude to list the available fields for that data source first; field names vary by platform.

  • Slow responses on large queries. Narrow the date range or filter to specific accounts or campaigns. Each query returns up to 1,000 rows.

  • Claude reports a blocked domain. Check that *.portermetrics.com is saved in the Domain allowlist (steps 8 and 9) and start a new chat. If it still fails, add the two hosts mcp.portermetrics.com and report.portermetrics.com instead (no https:// and no leading dot).
