What to do when data doesn't match your reports

What to do when the data on the reports don't match the original data (or displays no data)

If the data on your reports don’t match the original ones, there's a good chance that something has gone wrong:

  1. You select the wrong data source

  2. The dates aren’t matching

  3. The conversion window is different (apply just for Facebook Ads)

  4. There is a filter on the dashboards

Note: If the problem happens with Facebook Ads, here is a guide you can follow to solve it.

1. You select the wrong data source

This is probably the most common reason for data discrepancies. To avoid this, make sure you’re selecting the correct data source in your reports.

To solve this issue, you can follow the next steps:

  • Go to Resources.

  • Click on Managed added data sources.

  • Click on Edit to edit your data source.

Then click on Edit connection.

Finally, click on Reconnect to reload your data.

2. The dates aren’t matching

Another common reason for data discrepancies is that the dates on your reports don’t match the original ones on the Facebook Ads Manager. To avoid this, ensure that the dates range on your Google Data Studio report are aligned before analyzing the data.

Otherwise, be sure to check that your charts don't have a custom date range To verify if your graphs and charts have a custom date, you can follow the next steps:

  • Click on the graph or chart you want to verify.

  • In the sidebar menu, scroll down to Default date range and click on Auto.

In this way, your graph will be aligned to the date range control properties for the report

3. The conversion window is different (apply just for Facebook Ads)

If you're seeing discrepancies in your Facebook Ads data, it might be because the conversion window is different in your reports. The conversion window is the amount of time after someone sees your ad or clicks on it that they're counted as a conversion.

By default, the conversion window for Facebook Ads is a 7-day click or 1-day view.

4. There is a filter on the dashboards

Sometimes, data discrepancies can occur when there's a filter applied to your dashboards. To avoid this, ensure that you're not filtering out any of the data you need before analyzing it.

To check if there's a filter on your dashboard, you can follow the next steps:

  • Click on Resource.

  • Click on Manage filters.

  • If you see a filter applied, and it's unnecessary, click on the Remove next to the filter name to delete it.
